Ujjain Darshan

Gopal Mandir

Gopal Mandir, also known as the Dwarkadhish Temple, is the second largest temple in Ujjain after Mahakaleshwar Temple. It is dedicated to Lord Krishna and is located in the main market of Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, India. The temple was built in the 19th century by Bayaji Bai Shinde, the wife of Maratha King Daulatrao Shinde, in Maratha-style architecture.

Ujjain is about 65 km from Indore. The main idol inside the temple is a two-feet-tall statue of Lord Krishna, made of marble with a silver coating. The temple also has idols of Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati, and Garuda.

The temple is famous for Janmashtami and Harihar Parva celebrations. During Harihar Parva, an idol of Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga is brought to meet Lord Krishna.

The temple doors were once stolen by Mahmud of Ghazni, but they were later restored by Mahadji Shinde.
