Sandipani Ashram is a holy place built in memory of Maharishi Sandipani and is a popular tourist spot in Ujjain. According to mythology, this is the place where Guru Sandipani taught Lord Krishna, his friend Sudama, and Krishna’s brother Balram.
Today, the ashram looks like a temple, with idols of Krishna, Balram, and Sudama, along with a statue of Guru Sandipani. A special stone with numbers from 1 to 100 engraved on it is also found here, and it is believed that Guru Sandipani himself carved it.
The ashram complex is very large, with many shrines. The main shrine is dedicated to Guru Sandipani. There is also a temple called Sarveshwar Mahadev, which houses a 6000-year-old Shivlinga with Sheshnaag in its natural form. It is believed that Guru Sandipani and his disciples worshipped this Shivlinga.
Another important feature of the ashram is the Gomati Kund, a large stepped water tank. It is believed that Lord Krishna collected water from all holy places and stored it here for Guru Sandipani’s convenience. The water of Gomati Kund is considered sacred, and many devotees fill their bottles and take it home.
