Harsiddhi Temple Ujjain

According to the Skanda Purana, Goddess Chandi earned the name Harsiddhi after defeating two demons, Chand and Prachand, who tried to enter Mount Kailash while Shiva and Parvati were alone. Shiva, pleased with her victory, honored her with the title “one who vanquishes all.” The Harsiddhi Temple was rebuilt during the Maratha period, and its two lamp-adorned pillars are remarkable examples of Maratha art. These lamps, when lit during Navaratri, create a spectacular sight. The temple complex also houses an ancient well with an artistic pillar on top. Inside the temple, the Sri Yantra, a powerful symbol of Shakti (divine energy), is enshrined. According to the Shiva Purana, when Shiva carried Sati’s burning body from the sacrificial fire, her elbow is believed to have fallen at this sacred place.
